Ok folks so i need your advice on this one.

Im thinking of making a 3x3 demo board for Malifaux for the shop to take to shows...

I have the following options:

1)Creepy steam punk street table with a canal and a couple of bridges on it (The pegasus hobbies ones) think spooky Edinburgh style, this could be used for either warmachine/hordes or malifaux. I could use the Hirst Art moulds to make the buildings and streets but this would make it rather heavy to transport.

OR

2) Wild West town with the typical buildings and gallows and graveyard (Boot Hill) this could be used for Dead Mans had aswell. (This could be done with laser cut MDF buildings for speed)

Thoughts?

Craig

Good Morning Folks,

This is the beginning of my project to build an epic looking demo board that can be used for either Malifaux/Privateer Press/Dead Mans Hand. As always I will record the progress of the build and this time I have to build it for Claymore 2014 so I have about 2 months and 19 days to get this done… go go gadget paint brush.

Image

So our tale of epic adventure and triumph against adversary begins as usual in the shower… 6s2hit had just returned from Carronade where the Bolt Action demo board went down very well and the large number of demo folks around made me think that we had an opportunity. The shop has the reputation of the best deals at shows so I thought why not get a reputation for doing the best/hottest demo boards at the shows.

Fast Forward a couple of hours and im in work slaving away to earn the fat loots so I can give it all to uncle Kenny for my weekly fix of plastic crack. I went over a list of possible boards that would suit the games I had in mind and I came up with the following.

1) Steam punk Victorian street scene with many tall tenements with dark alleys, think Sweeney Todd in style.
2) Dock Area with water effect and perhaps a ship.
3) Wild West Town, Deadwood style
4) Mine camp

Because im on a deadline for this the street scene is not really practical in the time allowed so I went for my number 2 choice of the Mine Camp, and I after some serious thinking at work I cam up with the following plan.

Image

I worked out a shopping list for what I will need to build the board:

Toy Train Set
Coffee Stirrers
Logs
Foam
3x3 Mdf Board
Sand
Glue
Paint
Soul Stones
Chain for the crane.

Looking over the list I have it all apart from the Train so after a little searching I found a suitable kit on Ebay but after I spooke to the financial backer,

Image

He informed me that he already had the train I had seen and that in fact there were two sets and I could work on one of them for the demo board.

Image

So with a little advice from Agent Del, I started to work on the train choosing to begin with the coal wagon at the back of the engine (see technical train geek terms) it had a moulded plastic coal stack which looked a little pants so I sanded it down to key the area and set about gluing on cat litter (Clean stuff) to simulate the coal.

Image

So begins the building of the table, a text this morning told me that the 3x3 and the foam have arrived at the 6s2hit bunker, now all I need is to get them home to the Batcave.

Nice concept, love trains. Someone going to be tied to the tracks all silent movie style? btw, the coal wagon is called a tender.

A great way of getting steampunk parts, such as cogs, is to go looking in junk shops for old clocks that you can bust open.

I picked up the board today from Kenny so here we have a basic layout, the mine shaft hill still need to be made but this gives an outline of the table.

The other side of the board has got brown and green effect on it so im going to use the blank side so we can flip the baord if need be.
