Well here they are at last; my first set of figures. Let me introduce the Grundi, who are my imagining of space dwarves.

These guys stand at shoulder height to standard 28mm 'heroic scale' humans.
The figures are multi-part with the bodies, heads (2 options) and arms (2 options) available separately through Zealot Miniatures.

The set of bodies all have the same basic pose with different detail on the upper body. The angle of the photos above make the legs look shorter, but you can see them better in the image below. There are 5 variations in this first set. A second set will be added in the future (sometime) with different poses. This set also includes a cloak which fits perfectly to these bodies (you can even see the shape of the rear loincloth imprinted in it). With one cape in each set of 5, 5 sets would give you 25 figures, you could have a unit of 5 with the cape; a great way of picking out a unit of Hearthguard.

Image

There are two options for the heads; ones with short beards, or beardless baldies. I will be making variants of the heads in the future, such as helmeted or with additional features such as bionics. I will also be making a set of heads with the classic Dwarfish big bushy beards. These would require the front of the collar to be cut away. The neck sockets on the bodies are the same size as standard 28mm human heads so you can fit whatever heads you like. Likewise, these heads can be used with 28mm humans.

There are currently two different arm option available there is a more openly posed set that are ideal for close combat weapons and more dynamic poses, and s more closely posed set better suited to ranged weapons. All of the arms have empty fists and a flat plate on the forearm that make it easy to attach weapons, shields and equipment of your choice. In some people's view, these arms look too big/long for the figures, but shorter arms would not be able to meet across the chest.

So what's next? I plan to do some smaller/shorter arms for those who would like them to be smaller.

I am also working on a heavy trooper that would be ideal for carrying heavy weapons. The body of the heavy trooper is similar to above, with additional armour plates. I am working on some arm options so that you can have the option of old school shoulder-mounted heavy weapons, or having the weapons held two-handed. I am also working on a suit of exo armour for the Grundi, which will be much larger than the basic troopers.c troopers.

Congratulations Fog!

It's great to see all your hard work paying off :)

I'm looking forward to seeing how these develop further.

Thanks dude. The shorter arms are coming along well. I've got a few options on the go for them, including arms for two-handed ranged weapons. I've got the main block work done so far, plus shoulder pads, but still need to pur armour plates on the arms an sort some hand positions.

I've kept the shoulder pads small on these ones, then I can make up optional larger pads than can go on top to give more options.

I need to get a few batches of heads sent to me so I can start working on options for them too.

Tidied up, trimmed and shortened a bit more. I think I am happy with it enough now to get these components cast up.

So I got in a bit of a sculpting mood while falling asleep in front of the TV instead of going to bed. First time sculpting hair. What do you reckon?

Finally got some time to work on the arms for my Grundi. I now have 5 pairs of arm poses, I just need to fill the gaps and sculpt the shoulder joints.

I've been getting back to working on the arms for my Grundi. I decided it would be best to sort the most useful arms first; double handed. I already have a bunch of single handed arms ready. Getting sent off for casting soon will be a pair of single-weapon arms, the 2-weapon arms, and an additional left arm that can hold the shield up in front of the figure.

Here's the initial 3d mock-ups for my basic weapons, along with my sketch. The caster I use has their own 3d modeller, so I'm getting them to work from my design. The master will be printed, cleaned up and cast properly. This is the basic Ion Carbine for my Grundi figures. This in the first mock-up, and there is plenty to work on from here. I'll post updates as it progresses.

I gave the 3d modeller a couple of notes to work on, and will post pics when he shows me the result. The side panels should be the same width as the body, with thin recessed lines, rather than the whole panel being recessed. Also, the barrel should me the same shape as the muzzle, rather than just being round. I'll also get him to do a variant where the end of the barrel is just recessed into the muzzle, rather than having the lip, so that I can see what I prefer.

Next update on the Ion Carbine. The panels on the body have been amended to what I wanted, and look so much better, and the addition of the grip detail and side slots makes a big difference. They still need to do the same for the muzzle and the bit on the top. The two cut away sections on the side of the muzzle need squared off, and the barrel shape needs changed to match the shape of the muzzle.
