Hi all,

So I've finally taken the plunge and decided to enter an official GW tournament at warhammer world in April. It's a doubles tournament and basically you have 1500pts to spend between you and your partner. If you are different armies you must use the rules for allied detachments so here goes...

I'm playing as the "Ally" in our build and I'm running an IG list in support of my friends Tau army. With my 750pts(ish) I'm taking:

HQ
Command Squad - Company Commander, 4x Plasma Guns, Master of Ordnance in a Chimera w/Multilaser, Heavy Bolter

Troops
Veteran Squad - Sergeant w/ccw, plasma pistol, 3x Plasma Guns
Infantry Platoon:
Infantry command squad
2x Infantry squads

Fast Attack
Vendetta with twin linked lascannons & sponson Heavy Bolters (Veterans ride in this)

Heavy Support
Manticore w/Heavy Flamer

The idea is to use the Manticore to crack as many enemy tanks/units as possible early on in the game and then use the mass plasma to take out Terminators etc. The blob of troops are there to hang on to home objectives whilst the flyer deploys where needed.

My friend will be running Crisis Suits, a unit of Kroot, 2x Units of Fire Warriors and 2x Broadsides.

Thoughts?

Drop te master ordanece and take some guns in the blob. If he moved he can't shoot so why have him in a chimera?

Have you read the rules for it? Always scatters.

Not reliable

More reliable than trying to charge with a close combat army.

I could swap him out for a couple of auto cannons/flamers on the blob. I'll give it a trial. I love my S9 AP3 blast though!

Here was our army for the doubles.

We came 34th out of 104 teams! Not bad for my first tournament.

Well 34th is better than 104th and not all too bad for your first doubles tournament.

If one of our games would have gone another turn we would have received an additional 3 VPs which would have put us at 28th. I'm really pleased with 34th though for saying we didn't score any VPs in our first game. I'll get around to doing a full tournament report soon.

This is the reason why I really liked the old roll a D6 to play another turn mechanic that some missions had, though the D3 extra turn was better in my opinion, especially if you only needed one more turn. Quite a few times my opponent has had my back against the wall and defeat seems all but certain, then there is that moment of calm and you can no longer hear your opponents boasting because everything just goes silent, and then you see it, your golden chance for victory, you know what must be done!

Then you run out of turns.
